Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we enter the colder months, we want to take a moment to remind everyone that cold and flu season is upon us. Our priority is to keep students, staff, and families healthy and to minimize the spread of illness within our school community.

Here are some helpful reminders from our Nursing Team to reduce the risk of colds and flu:

-Handwashing: Encourage your child to wash their hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing, sneezing, or before eating.

-Coughing & Sneezing Etiquette: Teach children to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue or their elbow when coughing or sneezing.

-Staying Home When Sick: Please keep your child home if they have a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or symptoms that prevent them from participating comfortably in school activities. Students should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to school.

Together, we can help keep our school a safe and healthy place for learning. Thank you for your continued support and for reinforcing these healthy habits at home. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school nurse’s office.

Our district-wide nursing team consists of Jascey Walters, a registered nurse, and Samantha Delp, a certified nursing assistant. Both have the professional licensure, training, and certifications necessary to make informed decisions and advise others on student health matters. This is possible through the special distinction for school nurses in Illinois, which ensures our nurses are uniquely qualified for their role within the school environment. Through their collaboration and combination of training, we are able to provide this important service.

We are confident that your children are in caring and capable hands with Jascey and Samantha, and we are so happy they are part of our district.
