U.S. Navy Petty Officer Luis Ortiz visited Morrison High School’s Law Survey and American Government classes on Thursday, April 7 to discuss the role of Judge Advocate Generals (JAGs) in the U.S. Navy, and to provide an overview of a sailor’s day-to-day experiences aboard a naval ship. Petty Officer Ortiz discussed the career-related benefits to service in the U.S. Navy, including job training in a wide range of careers and a path to post-service employment.

He also fielded questions from students on a number of topics, including the advantages and drawbacks of naval service; the length of a typical deployment; encounters with hostile actors on the high seas; cell phone policies aboard ships; and dating in the U.S. Navy.
